Babe Ruth Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  Is there a two hour time limit for games?
A:  Yes.  There is a two hour time limit for all games.

Q:  Can a pitcher who starts the game reenter as a pitcher if he leaves the field?
A: Yes.  Because of the free substitution rule adopted by the Idaho Falls Babe Ruth league a pitcher who starts the game can leave the field and return as a pitcher.  (NOTE:  This rule is different in tournament play)

Q:  Can a pitcher pitch more than 7 innings in a calendar week?
A:  No.  A Babe Ruth 13-15 pitcher, regardless of age, may pitch (7) innings per calendar week.  The calendar week is considered Monday through, and including, Sunday.  (see Pitching Limitations)

Q:  Is a batter automatically out if he walks towards the dugout on a dropped third strike with first base open?
A:  No.  When the batter realizes the situation he may attempt to reach first base.  If the batter reaches the dugout or dugout steps he may not then attempt to reach first base.

Q:  Can a pitcher pitch 4 innings on Monday and 3 innings on Wednesday for a total of seven innings in a calendar week?
A:  No.  A Babe Ruth pitcher must have two (2) calendar days rest if he pitches in more than three innings in one game.  (see Pitching Limitations)
