General Questions:
1.
How is
the All Star Team selected?
During the regular season, each Babe Ruth coach is expected to evaluate their own players, as well
as those players on opposing teams. About 2 weeks prior to the
end of the season, each coach will meet and nominate players to
play on the All Star teams. Coaches will have the opportunity
to vote for the first 8 players and the head coach of the All
Star team will choose the remaining 4 players from those
nominated.
2. How
much will it cost for my child to play on an All Star team?
You should plan on the cost of All
Stars being anywhere between $100 and $200 for the cost of
uniforms and tournaments. You should also consider the cost of
travel and lodging. Most coaches encourage players to obtain
sponsors to reduce the player’s costs.
3. What is
the time commitment expected when playing All Stars?
The All Star teams will be chosen
about 2 weeks prior to the end of the regular season.
Tournament play typically begins a week or two after the regular
season (mid-June) and can continue through the end of July or
even the 1st of August depending on how successful
the team is. Families who have vacation time planned during
this period of time should discuss their schedule with the coach
prior to making the commitment to the All Star team.
4. Will my
child get adequate playing time on an All Star Team?
Most All Star teams have at least 12 players, which may reduce
the playing time of some players. All Stars is definitely more
competitive than the regular season and coaches will play those
players who they feel can best help the team be successful.
Coaches will do their best to provide a positive experience for
all players, but must play those who he/she feels will give the
team the best chance of succeeding. Some tournaments require
teams to bat only 9 players, which also can limit playing time.
